Hi Janssuuh,
I’m interested on your Full Beta Skin.
I’ve actually installed the hardbyte-python1.4.3 package from your manual.
Which changes I have to take to use your full skin?
Best Regards
Phil
Hi Phil,
The full version I made with PyCan 1.5.2.
I see there is a difference with the ‘old’ version of my software. The 1.5.2 version uses a different lay-out on its can strings.
If you like I could make a new version of the Skin, which lets you choose the Hardbyte version you installed (1.4.x / 1.5.x)
Kind regards,
Jeroen
Yes, that would be great.
Now I have wired it on my working table, but I’m looking forward to try it as soon as possible in my car. (Audi A6 4B)
I’ve read that the Raspi turns off by extracting the ignition key.
Does it boot up by inserting the key next time?
Best Regards,
Phil

Hi Phil, I’ll try to find some time tonight to add the optional switch between the PyCan versions. With the 1.5 versions the default settimgs are more easy to implement, but if you have the 1.4 version running correctly I could change the script, looking towards the correct string positions of the Can messages. Audis A6 4B model does not support (send) a lot of Can messages. As far as I know for example it does not provide speed / rpm. I’m not sure whether it sends the ignition off message. Also if a Raspberry is shut down, there is… Lees meer »
Hi Jeroen,
If you can help me I could also try to install the v1.5
But there were some problems, because I couldn’t open this file in your manual:
“To do this, go to:
[sudo nano /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/python_can-1.4.3-py2.7.egg/can/interfaces/interface.py]
And paste the following content in from line 5:
can.rc[‘interface’] = ‘socketcan_ctypes’
can.rc[‘channel’] = ‘can0’
”
I changed 1.4.3 to 1.5.2 without success.
How have you wired the Raspi to your RNS-E for power up by unlocking and sleep?
Thanks a lot.
Best Regards,
Phil
Hi Phil,
I added the params to the plugin, which are (or at least should be) picked up automaticly on the PyCan 1.5 version.
The power supply wire on the RNS-E can be connected to pin D15, but you’d need to relais it, cause it probably is a to weak direct supply for your Raspberry.
Kind regards,
Jeroen
Hi Jeroen,
I can test the plugin later, and inform you about it.
Do you have a schematic for this?
I think pin D15 is Kl.30 and this pin is always powered to the battery.
Best Regards,
Phil
You are right!
It is D13 (googled it);
13 – U14 ST DSP (Radio On) (Provides a switched ignition-out source to turn on rear amplifier (bose too) or “remote” lead for an aftermarket amp)
It’ll shuts down power after about 2 minutes after RNS-E shuts down.
is there a version of the skin available for Jarvis?
Hi Mark,
The thing is that installing Kodi on top of Raspbian (apt-get install kodi) installs Isengard (15.2).
If you’re using Jarvis installed on OSMC or OpenElec, there are needed libraries missing, which makes the plugin unable to execute.
Hi Jeroen,
finally i could install the Raspi in my car.
Can you tell me the next steps to get your skin for testing it in my A6 4B?
Thanks a lot.
Kind Regards
Phil
Hi, any Ideas?
Regards
Hi Phil,
I think I oversaw your request :-S.. sorry about that!
Did you manage to connect the can-wires already? I made an automatic log-script, which should save a logfile to your raspberry ( home/pi/rns_log/… – or similar, it has been a while..)
Does your rns-e inharit the time of your Audi?! The logfile hets triggered on a time signal. If your A6 B4 does not send the date/time we need to enable the log another way..
Kind regards,
Jeroen
Hi Jeroen,
no Problem, I’m happy to hear from you now. 🙂
Yes, i’ve wired all in my car.
Is the Full Skin necessary for this log-script?
Yes, the time for the rns-e comes from the cluster (tacho).
Best Regards
Phil
Hi Phil,
Yes. The log script is only implemented at the full version.
Btw, the Rns-e and the Raspberry plugin will speak directly to eachother (and therefor will work anyway).
All options on the clusterpanel we’ll need tot test.
I haven’t get to testing Krypton 🙁 try to start with this tonight.
Kind regards,
Jeroen
Hello Jeroen,
I’ve been using this great skin for over a year now and it’s been working flawlessly. Great work !!!
An addition (feature request) that I would like to see is “bluetooth Audio and a2dp/avrpc capabilities” like described in this thread: http://engineeringdiy.freeforums.org/software-bluetooth-interface-and-music-t375.html
Do you think this is easy implemented into this skin? My programming knowledge are not as good to implement this.
Thanks for a quick reply
Best Regards,
Eric
Hello, I have downloaded the full skin.
Unfortunately it does not work with kodi 17.1
is there a way to change the?
love greetings
Hi role,
Have the kodi 17 offerings to / along with Raspbian (/ Pixel) installed?
Without Raspbian distro is Python script and the C script fur the mcp2510 chip not functionieren.
Friendly greetings,
Jeroen
hello i can’t install the skin in the last version os kodi 17.3. or how can i install another version ?
Hi Miguel,
The skin was written for Kodi 15.2.
I haven’t managed to rebuild it for Krypton yet. I now see the default repository (as of 14th of June) is Krypton.
So I edited my installation instructions which should install Kodi 15.2 again (you might need to uninstall your current version) and will enable the skin to work;
http://www.janssuuh.nl/topic/kodi-op-raspbian/
I’m sorry for the inconvenience!
Kind regards,
Jeroen
Hi. thanks for answering. Buy the new compatible skin for 17.3, but when I install it causes the kodi does not boot. The screen remains with the background, without any letter and a repetitive sound. Install the kodi from the Retropie, and only install the two plug-ins for the can-bus. I need something more? Without the skin the kodi works properly and even with the radio buttons. I’ve tried uninstalling the kodi several times and reinstalling it, and the same thing always happens.
Thank you very much for your time. And congratulations for the project.
Hi Miguel,
Indeed there was an issue with the 0.0.32 version if you ‘clean’ install. Should be fixed on 0.0.33 now..
Please notify me whether it works now?!
By the way; You don’t need any of the additional can-bus plugins. The ‘Full’ version of the Audi Rns Skin contains all needed scripts in its package.
